i watched about 3 hours of Louis CK today, while not proud of myself.
the "back to the garden" version is somehow (much?) better than the "at the Dolby" version.
there's also "the lost hour" thing. meh.
but!
this Sammy Obeid guy is great. martyr in a safe space.
really!
Louis is doing the same shtick, which is simply getting stale.
at the same time he's not an uninteresting guy, just his standup somehow got too gross? (I mean it was probably at the same level of grossness over the past ~10-15 years, right? just, it's a bit lame now. well, maybe I got so fucking sophisticated over those same years, hah!)
so, for example his story about how TV shows are overwritten, dialogues are too perfect ... writers seem to think a bit too much of themselves.
at the same time it was crazy to learn that they got lófasz from the streaming revenue, because it was not in the contract, because it was written by some dumbass lawyer. if writers are so great how come they cannot write a fucking contract that's good for themselves? HUH? (this is much more funnier if you imagine the Louis voice for this ... or ... maybe it's just because of the laugh track in my head after too many hours of standup videos?)
speaking of dumbass lawyers, I can't wait to find out what will happen "at work" after we submitted an offer with a helluva lot of fancy legalese, that was generated by *yours truly* (zero AI input, I'm afraid I'm behind the times - or still a bit smarter than an 8th grader/GPT-er! yeah, take that machines! Pas smart! Pas strong!)
also, I recently learned that in Korea legal documents still sometimes use the old logographic characters (so before they used Hangul the script was called Hanja, which uses Chinese characters), and, like ... how fucking stupid is that? sure, the argument is that this way there's no ambiguity in legal documents. but, again, like, maybe check how the rest of the world does it, like, like ... define your terms, and stick to that meaning? it's not that hard. (herp derp. I am so smart, yes I came up with that totally by myself, yes, thank you.)
[yes, of course, turns out that's what they do, and they don't "use" it as in "write" them, they use it as in "read" them, as they still have old laws on the books that haven't be de-Hanja'd, so they need to be able to read them. so, now after clearing that who's to blame ... how fucking dumb is that!?]so, Louis' observational comedy seems a derivative, in many parts shamelessly unoriginal/forced (take a complex issue, abortion, and just say something bold and gross and ha-ha -- well, okay, it was at least salient when Roe v Wade got aborted, because this special is from 2023, and he even mentions the case, even makes a joke about it, but meh), or he just talks about dicks and vaginas, and makes jokes about the Jews. whereas this Sammy guy talks about pussy, math, and Gaza and makes jokes about ... oh wait a minute!
